About Elizabeth Lada

I have been an illustrator for many years, first working for newspapers and then as a freelance illustrator and designer. More recently I rediscovered oil painting, and although I still take on some graphic design work I can more often be found at my easel than at my computer these days.

I try to capture how it feels to live in this incredible area - the sense of peace deep under the redwoods, the nostalgia sparked by a century-old storefront sandwiched between modern glass and concrete, the longing of remembered intimate spaces under trees or colonnades. I am drawn to shadows for what they reveal, for half-hidden sources of light that draw the eye, for beauty in the ordinary.

But as for beauty, nothing compares with the human form. From the moment we are born we are mesmerized by faces and seek safety and love in someone’s arms. Painting a figure or a face is almost a physical pleasure as I watch these well-remembered shapes and textures appear under my brush.
