Artist’s statement
My body of work attends to the emotional presence of familiar places, objects, and people. Working primarily in oil, I look for the charged interval between recognition and memory: a storefront at dawn, the cool shelter of trees, an everyday object that invites us to pause and look. My more recent paintings explore a more contemporary expressive figurative/abstract space, creating a tension between childlike imagery and an emotionally ambiguous but confident execution.
Living and working in the Bay Area, I am drawn to the coexistence of landscape, history, and rapid change. But in all my work I seek beauty in the ordinary—not as decoration, but as a way of recognizing the depth already present in daily life. My work invites a lingering gaze: toward the familiar, the overlooked, and especially the commonplace where a surface randomness can feel quietly and deeply significant.
